Stage-Setting Presentation · The Demand
A presentation that sets the stage: why demand for homeownership is still strong even as the building system delivers far more rental units. We explore the implications - how that affects building the middle class and creating upward mobility - why this market failure needs to be addressed, and who is working on solutions. This sets up the two panels that follow.
PresenterKarla Lopez del Rio
  1. How is limited access to ownership reshaping the middle class?
  2. What are the long-term implications of a "forever renter" trajectory for economic mobility and wealth creation?
  3. What are the long-term implications for California and the future of the American Dream?
Panel 1 · The Delivery Problem
Why the system produces rental more easily than ownership.
